Collaborative projects

Samaki project is collaborating with several projects within and outside Tanzania, including:

Vulnerability to Viability (V2V) Global Partnership - V2V is a transdisciplinary global partnership and knowledge network with members from Africa, Asia, Canada, and internationally. We aim to support small-scale fishers in transitioning from vulnerability to viability.

The EAF-Nansen Programme – is a longstanding partnership between FAO and Norway, implemented in close collaboration with the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research (IMR) and aims at improving fisheries management in line with the ecosystem approach to fisheries (EAF), strengthening the capacities of fisheries institutions and generating scientific knowledge on marine resources and ecosystems.

Small fish for food and nutrition security in Africa (SmallFish4Food) – aim at educating and engaging a multitude of stakeholders to “transform socio-cultural, economic and institutional barriers in the fish value chain, as well as technical innovations and improved knowledge, to improve sustainable utilisation of small fish resources for Africa’s low-income population”.

Blue Tenure Transitions Working Group: Access, Rights and Equity for an Emerging Blue Economy in the WIO Region - The goal of the working group is to draw attention to the concept of blue tenure transitions (BTT) for small-scale fishers. The core methodological approach of the BTT working group centres on co-production of insights and actions by engaging with a transdisciplinary group of practitioners and applied scholars, along with community-based knowledge holders linked to our ‘learning sites’. The project aims to do this through systematic synthesis and review on the primary challenges and opportunities for tenure security of coastal communities in the WIO context and to examine how tenure intersects with blue economy and 30x30 initiatives.
