SoAF Analyzes Newly Collected Specimen of Living Coelacanth Species
A specimen weighing 87.7 kg and measuring 177 cm in length has been collected by the School of Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Technology (SoAF)
and is currently undergoing analysis. This specimen has been identified as Latimeria chalumnae, one of the only two known living species of coelacanths. Coelacanths were long believed to have become extinct during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 66 million years ago.
